Native American Concerns is hosting “Healing Together Through Story Telling,” healing through sharing California’s history.  It will be held on Thursday, September 13, at 6:30 p.m., at 4528 Baldwin Ave. in El Monte, and will be directed by Julia Bogany of the Gabrieleno San Gabriel Band of Mission Indians. 3.         Catholic Communication Collaboration (C3):  Registration for the 2018 C3 Technology Conference is Live; Conference is Thursday, August 9, through Saturday, August 11

The 2018 Catholic Communication Collaboration (C3) Technology Conference will be held from Thursday, August 9, through Saturday, August 11, on the campus of Loyola Marymount University.  The theme is:  New Missionary Road: Navigating the Digital Continent.  This event is not just for “techies”.  All school staff, parish staff, clergy, women religious, school and parish volunteers, business managers, catechists, youth ministers, and evangelizers should consider attending.  Thursday, August 9, and Saturday, August 11, will focus on workshops.  Wilson Tang, a technology and entertainment innovator, will open as the keynote on Thursday; and closing on Saturday with Mass at 4:00 p.m. will be Archbishop Gomez as celebrant and Fr. Brendan McGuire, a pastoral technology innovator, as homilist.  Friday, August 10, will be Innovation Day, a new feature to share new industry technologies, maker experiences for participants, highlights of innovation from our schools and parishes, and selected workshops. 4.         Catholic Charities of Los Angeles:  Free Citizenship Application Workshops in August, throughout the Archdiocese



Catholic Charities of Los Angeles is sponsoring a number of free citizenship application workshops throughout the Archdiocese to assist people who want to apply for U.S. citizenship.  The workshops will include:  checking eligibility; application preparation; fee waiver preparation (if someone qualifies); and attorney review.  The schedule of upcoming workshops is as follows:

St Francis de Sales Blue Army Prayer Cell invites all to a Fatima Retreat:  Preparation  and Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. 6.         St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish in Santa Clarita:  Iconography Workshop, Monday, August 20, through Friday, August 24, in Mission Hills

The St. Kateri Iconography Ministry will host their eighth annual Iconography Workshop from Monday, August 20, through Friday, August 24, at the San Fernando Pastoral Region Center in Mission Hills, adjacent to the San Fernando Mission.  Daily classes will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and provide students with a creative and hands-on experience in a reflective and communal atmosphere of studio time and prayer.  Instruction is given in all phases of the icon writing process, including the preparation of the icon board, transfer and etching of the icon image, application of clay bole and gold leaf, writing the image in stages using egg tempera and dry pigments, and fixing the image with oil.  Master iconographer, Nicholas Markell, will lead the class in writing the icon of Christ Pantocrator.  He teaches Eastern iconography from a Western Catholic perspective in an approach that explores the ancient art technique, the spiritual symbolism of the icon writing process, the history and theological significance of the icon, the living tradition of iconography, and the vocation of the iconographer. 7.         Mission San Jose Dominicans:  Religious Life Discernment Retreat Weekend for Young, Single, Catholic Women, Friday, August 24, through Sunday, August 26, in San Francisco Bay Area

The Mission San Jose Dominican Sisters invite all single Catholic women ages 18 through 40, who are considering a vocation to religious life, to a Religious Life Discernment Retreat Weekend.  It will be held from Friday, August 24, through Sunday, August 26, at the order’s motherhouse in Fremont, CA (in the San Francisco Bay area). 8.         Office for Worship:  “Rooted in Diversity, We Grow in Unity” Workshop, Saturday, August 25, in Manhattan Beach

“Rooted in Diversity, We Grow in Unity” with keynote speaker Carmen Flórez-Mansi, will be held on Saturday, August 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at American Martyrs Parish in Manhattan Beach.  This day will include opportunities for all the faithful in our parishes.  Anyone who is engaged in a liturgical ministry in the parish is welcome to participate.  The ethnic communities are also welcome to come as a group and meet in language-specific breakout groups.  Bp. Marc V. Trudeau, Auxiliary Bishop of the San Pedro Pastoral Region, will be joining the event for the day.  Cost ranges from $20 to $35 per person, depending on the number of people registering together, and how early or late the registration is made.  Please note that, due to a schedule change, there will be no lunch period; however, there will be morning refreshments at the beginning of the event, and substantial refreshments at the extended break in the middle of the event. 9.         St. Philomena Parish in Carson:  Fourth Regional Apostolic Congress on Mercy, Saturday, August 25

On Saturday, August 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., St. Philomena Parish in Carson will host the Fourth Regional Apostolic Congress on Mercy.  Starting with optional Morning Mass at 7:30 a.m., and Rosary at 8:00 a.m., speakers will include Fr. Chris Alar, M.I.C.; and Fr. Bill Casey, F.O.M.  The day will conclude with Benediction, blessing of religious articles, and Chaplet at 1:45 p.m., and then the Closing Mass at 3:00 p.m. with Bp. Joseph Brennan. 10.       Pax Christi Southern California:  Monthly Masses for Justice and Peace

Pax Christi Southern California celebrates a Monthly Mass for Justice and Peace.  It is held on the fourth Sunday of each month at 4:00 p.m., at St. Camillus Center for Pastoral Care (across the street from the former U.S.C. Medical Center).  The next Mass will be held on Sunday, August 26.  All are welcome.  Pax Christi is the official international Catholic peace movement focused on living nonviolence.

Pauline Center for Media Studies in Culver City is sponsoring the following events:

Cinema Divina Mini-Retreats:  With the practice of cinema divina, participants will reflect on the Scriptures in the light of film and enter into the profound longings of humanity for emotional connection and the beauty of love.  These events will be held at the Pauline Center for Media Studies, 3908 Sepulveda Blvd, Culver City, on select Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  Each session includes two movies, prayer, and dinner. 16.       Beginning Experience Los Angeles and the Office of Family Life:  Beginning Experience Weekend, Friday, September 14, through Sunday, September 16, in Encino

The Beginning Experience ministry, recognized by the Office of Family Life, facilitates the grief resolution process for those who have “lost a spouse” through separation, divorce, or death, thereby enabling them to again love themselves, others, and God.  The next weekend is scheduled for Friday, September 14, through Sunday, September 16, at Holy Spirit Retreat Center in Encino.  The weekend helps a person move from the darkness of grief into the light of a “new beginning” with renewed hope. 17.       Pax Christi Southern California:  Annual Conference, Saturday, September 22, in Orange
The annual conference of Pax Christi SoCal will take place on Saturday, September 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at St. Joseph Center, located at 480 S. Batavia Ave. in Orange.  Presenters will include Marie Dennis, Co-President of Pax Christi International; Fr. Sean Carroll, S.J., of the Kino Border Initiative; and Monica Curca of Activate Labs.  At lunchtime, there will also be a silent “Stand for nonviolence.”  Cost is $30 per person, which includes lunch. 18.       St. Athanasius Parish in Long Beach:  Pilgrimage to Marian Shrines of Fatima and Lourdes Begins Sunday, September 30



Fr. Francis Ilano of St. Athanasius Parish in Long Beach will be the spiritual director on a 13-day pilgrimage through Portugal, Spain, and France, with visits to Fatima and Lourdes.  It will be from September 30 through October 12.  The pilgrimage will end in Paris.  Cost is $4,207 (land and air).
