The Southern California Renewal Communities (SCRC) is sponsoring a workshop, "Experiencing God's Merciful Love," on Saturday, May 21, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Parish in Covina. Presenters will be Fr. Jerry Thompson, and Mr. Dominic Berardino. Topics will include: The Medicine of Mercy; Mercy and Forgiveness: Two Sides of the Same Coin; and Our Good Shepherd. The day will conclude with a Healing Mass. Cost for this event is $20 per person (if paid in full by Monday, May 16); after Monday, May 16, cost is $25. Cost includes a catered chicken lunch. Online registration is available at:

http://www.scrc.org

Important Information and Continuing Events:

2. Catholic Communication Collaboration; Office of Life, Justice, and Peace; and the Operations Department: “Catholic Social Teaching and Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” Free Online Course Has Been Updated and is Now Available

The Catholic Communication Collaboration is leading the use of online courses for our schools and parishes. One of the first, and recently updated, is “Catholic Social Teaching and Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.” Given the upcoming primary election in June and presidential election in November, it includes the bishops’ latest version (November 2015) of their document encouraging voters to educate themselves about Catholic Social Teaching as they prepare to vote. This course also includes links to state and national Catholic conferences on acceptable and unacceptable activity in lobbying, voter education, etc., as well as numerous episcopal and papal documents that contribute to the history of Catholic Social Teaching. The link to the course, “Catholic Social Teaching and Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” is via shortcut at:

http://archla.org/faithfulcitizenship

or directly at:

http://new.moodle.la-archdiocese.org/moodle/course/view.php?id=12

This course is in Moodle, which usually works best with the Mozilla Firefox browser. Second is the Google Chrome browser. Sometimes there are problems with the Microsoft Explorer browser, so that is not recommended.

The login section on the left hand side of the screen has fields for username and password; ignore those and do not fill in anything. Just click on the “Login as a guest” button. That takes you to the Terms of Use. Once you agree to them, you are directed into the course.

To navigate while in the course, there are “breadcrumbs” on the top of each page, a navigation path showing how you got to the point you are at. It starts with “Home – Courses – Life, Justice and Peace - Faithful Citizenship” and then goes into the topic you are currently in. You just need to click on the words “Faithful Citizenship” when you complete (or want to leave) a topic and return to the main page. Topics need not be accessed sequentially; you can skip around.

Within each topic, there may be multiple pages. They can be seen on the left hand panel, entitled “Table of Contents.” You can click on the desired item. You need not go in order; you can skip around.

For any questions or comments, please contact Ms. Eileen E. O’Brien of the Operations Department at (213) 637-7618 or at:

mailto:EEOBrien at la-archdiocese.org
